ABOUT THE ALBUM:

"Songs without Words" is an album of transcriptions from Schubert's works, performed by violist Elena Ünaldı and pianist Özgür Ünaldı. Ünaldı family are major contributors to Bursa's musical life, which is a historical city in Turkey. In this album they present a selected program of Schubert transcriptions for viola and piano. In addition to the well-known Arpeggione sonata that was written for the instrument called arpeggione, Ünaldı Duo play the transcriptions of the well-known songs of the greatest song-writer composer of the music history. Schubert wrote more than 600 songs for the human voice & piano and these works come to life in Elena Ünaldı's alto instrument in this recording.

After Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, no more arpeggione instruments were built and this piece is usually played with viola which is the closest instrument to arpeggione. Even though viola is the most commonly used instrument to perform Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata in our day, we should not forget that it is still a transcription. Arpeggione was an instrument between guitar and viola da gamba. Elena & Özgür Ünaldı add a colorful energy to Schubert's music, which is full of solemn, sincere and beautiful melodies.
